GOLD for Australian Rhythmic Team in Dehli!

Nicholas Carroll, Wednesday, 13 October 2010

Congratulations to NSW's Naazmi Johnston who has lead the Australian team towards a Gold medal in the rhythmic team event, with compatriots Janine Murray and Danielle Prince! The Australian team put together a total score of 235.775, over 10 points ahead of silver placing Canada (224.325), whilst England took the bronze (220.475).

Naazmi performed four great routines to earn a total All-Around qualification score of 99.625, achieving the highest rope routine of the day (25.025). Naazmi qualified second for tonight's All Around finals, only 0.45 behind Cypriot, Chrystalleni Trikamoti. Both Janine and Danielle will join Naazmi tonight in the all around competition finals.

Thursday night will than see Naazmi compete in all four apparatus finals and will no doubt take some confidence out of yesterday's efforts.

Yesterday's victory was Australia's first ever rhythmic gold at the games and is a great credit to what has been achieved in the country over recent years, with Naazmi's contribution playing a significant part.

Another congratulations goes to Dani LeRay, Naazmi's club coach at Meriden RG, who has travelled to Dehli as the Australian coach.
