Iakovleva prepared for Olympic debut

Rhythmic Gymnastics young-gun Lidiia Iakovleva is set to make her Olympic debut this afternoon.

Iakovleva will take to the floor at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre at 11:20am and 3:50pm (AEST) in the Individual Qualification ahead of tomorrow’s Final.

The impressive field will compete across two sessions, featuring two apparatus each, with the top 10 qualifying for Saturday’s final.

Iakovleva will be the 14th gymnast to compete in each apparatus.

We recently spoke with Rio 2016 Olympian, Danielle Prince to preview today’s exciting sessions.

“Lidiia will no doubt be aiming to perform clean consistent routines, showing all of her hard work.

“In gymnastics we’ve learned anything that can happen on the day, particularly with the pressure of an Olympic final.  It’ll be an exciting competition to watch that’s for sure.

“Rhythmic Gymnastics has been dominated by ROC athletes for many years. Twins Dina and Arina Averina are tipped to be medal favourites and are ones to watch,” Prince said.

Iakovleva will come up against some stars of Rhythmic Gymnastics, including ROC twins as well as Linoy Ashram (IRS) and Khrystyna Pohranychna (UKR).
