About the Program

NSW has a strong state squad program which has been in operation for many years. The state squad program is in place to support the gymnasts and programs in NSW who are pursuing the international pathway with the aim of producing internationally competitive gymnasts. The squads look to build upon the past successes programs and gymnasts have experienced and assist all members of the NSW high performance community in preparation for the annual World Championships, 2018 Commonwealth Games, 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games. 

Program objectives

Gymnastics NSW and the high performance coaches are working cooperatively with the best technical experts in the State/Country to enhance the progress and development of the gymnastics within the state. They do this to: 

  • Contribute to Gymnastics Australia High performance outcomes
  • Facilitate the sharing of knowledge between programs
  • Provide networking opportunities across various areas a High Performance Program
  • Provide access to master coaches and industry experts
  •  Increase the performance level of athletes through education opportunities for gymnasts and coaches
  •  Provide a training environment where gymnasts can train with likeminded athletes from fellow programs
  • Provide a range of support services for athletes and parents/guardians. 
  • Simulate training clinic/camp structure in preparation for selection to attend National clinics/camps

A collaborative approach

NSW are fortunate that a number of club programs have developed athletes that are very competitive at an international level. The state squad program does not exist to replace or in any way diminish the great work being performed by these programs, but rather complement it by offering additional services.
