Feature Club: Le Ray Gymnastics Ravenswood
Le Ray Gymnastics Ravenswood was established by Sydney 2000 Olympian Danielle Le Ray in 2011 following the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Dani, being involved in sport for over 30 years, decided to invest her experience as an Olympic Rhythmic athlete into establishing her very own clubs across Sydney. Ravenswood, being one of five locations of Le Ray, caters to athletes from a recreational level through to an international high-performance level and is open to the public. In 2018, Le Ray Ravenswood won the Gymnastics NSW Rhythmic Club of the Year award, as well as Rhythmic Gymnastics Levels Coaching Team of the Year.
In 2018, Le Ray conquered at the National Clubs Carnival in the Gold Coast, where they were crowned the champion Overall RG club. “This was our first year sending a full team and it was great to see all the hard work pay off”, Dani Le Ray, founder of Le Ray Gymnastics. For 3 years running the club has been awarded the Independent Girls Schools Sporting Association (IGSSA) Overall Champions and had Sub Junior Group Australian National Champions. The awards don’t stop there for this high performing club, with multiple state and national championship medals to date, it is no wonder they have quickly grown to be one the largest Rhythmic gymnastics programs in NSW.
This year, working towards continuing to provide high-quality programs to their athletes, LRG Ravenswood have implemented a coach development program to help mentor young and upcoming coaches. The club is also hoping to expand and bring Rhythmic gymnastics to children all over Sydney and have opened a holiday camp program to provide a more accessible introduction to the sport. Dani tells us “ Our competitive programs are focusing on the National Championships and the National Clubs Carnival and we hope to have our club vying for the Overall Club Championship title again in 2019”.
The team behind the doors of LRG Ravenswood are not only professional and friendly coaches, but also experts in their field, providing young girls with the environment to achieve the best results possible. Head coach, Marija Vuk-Luboya, represented Yugoslavia for many years at European and World Championships. Marija turned her focus to high performance coaching after moving to Australia with her family, and has been the Head Coach at Le Ray Ravenswood for 4 years.
“On a daily basis we are so honoured to be helping so many young gymnasts on their road to becoming strong, active and more confident young women.” – Dani Le Ray, Founder & CEO Le Ray Gymnastics.
