WAG HP AIS Camp 23rd – 25th June 2018

Gymnastics NSW was excited to welcome the WAG High Performance, Junior International, Future International and Team Future (10-12 years) squads to the AIS, Canberra for a camp from the 23rd-25th June! It was a little chilly in the capital city but a great time was had by all involved.

With a range of activities located both in and out of the gym, the gymnasts and coaches were treated to a creative and motivational camp. The quality and skill level on display was impressive with some great upgrades being worked on since the Australian Championships for our Level 9U, Future, Junior and Senior International athletes. The atmosphere in the gym was very positive with clubs all working together to continue the great work already being done by the clubs in NSW.

Each day the gymnasts took part in training sessions in the gym as well as educational workshops such as Judging for Gymnasts, Goal Setting, Self-Massage, What-If Scenarios and the Future, Junior and Senior athletes also took part in a practical nutrition session where we found a few master chefs! Our “Get Creative” session in the gym and “Competition Hair Master Class” certainly brought out the personalities of the gymnasts!

We were privileged to have in attendance FIG Judge and former National Coach Peggy Liddick (with many World Championship and Olympic medals to her name), creative movement specialist Stacey Umeh (accomplished High Performance coach, creative movement specialist and choreographer who has worked with many programs and associations around the world) and High Performance Coaches Dmitri Zorin (former member of the Russian gymnastics team and coach of the Russian Olympic National Team and Tae Tyrrel (High Performance coach formerly from the AIS with many WAG and MAG High Performance gymnasts to his credit).

These master coaches were a great asset to assist our NSW coaches on the High Performance Pathway. A big thank-you also to Helen Colagiuri, Wendy Anderson and Ellie Donnan for your support and assistance throughout the camp, your feedback and contributions were greatly appreciated.

Thank you to all who attended for making the camp such a success and we look forward to seeing you all at your next squad session!
