Sport NSW Community Sport Awards
In celebration of National Volunteer week, Gymnastics NSW are delighted to announce the GNSW finalists for the Sport NSW 2019 NSW Community Sports Awards.
The community Sport Awards recognise the outstanding contribution of individuals and clubs that volunteer their time for the growth of their Sport. Gymnastics NSW wish to announce the nominees from Gymnastics.
Philip Western - Volunteer Director of the Year Nominee
Active at Gymsport, Board and national level Philip has always applied himself professionally, graciously, and with the highest levels of respect from all of us who have worked with him. Having served on the Board for 14 years, 12 as President, Phil has led Gymnastics NSW through unprecedented growth and stability , leading Gymnastics NSW into their 16th year of consecutive membership growth
In addition to his role as President of Gymnastics NSW, Phil served the sport as Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition Coordinator, a voluntary position that saw Phil organise and successfully deliver more than 100 state-based competitions, seeing him volunteer literally thousands and thousands of hours towards the growth and development of the sport on top of thousands of hours of voluntary service on the Board and as President.
Lachlan Tolhurst - Young Coach of the Year Nominee
Based at Unmina PCYC, Lachlan coaches classes in recreation, trampoline, tumbling and FreeG, adult classes and performance gymnastics.. In 2018 Lachlan started a class for the PCYC Boxers to work on their flexibility and joint stability. He facilitates warm up sessions, and coaches regular sessions with the high performing boxers (including Commonwealth Games medallists) prior to major championships.
The presentation ceremony will be hosted by the Hon. John Sidoti MP, Minister for Sport, and the Minister will also present the recipients of the Sport NSW Distinguished Long Service Award with special recognition for their exceptional service to sport.
