GNSW provides support staff to assist yu with your on-going professional development.

Why should I gain accreditation?

These courses are designed and delivered by the experts of Gymnastics in Australia and are reviewed every four years so you are guaranteed to receive the most up-to-date information.  When you accept a coaching position, you assume a duty of care for your athlete's i.e. you acknowledge to provide them with the best standard of coaching possible.  This course provides you with basic competincies and a stepping stone to further professional development.  The qualification is registered with the Australian Sports Commission and recognized in every state.  Being professionally qualified is great for your club's public relations and credibility.  It makes you more employable!  It is also a requirement of GNSW and GA that ALL coaches on the floor at sanction events MUST be a current Technical Member.

I coach more than on Gymsport.  Which course should I choose?

Begin by undertakin a qualification in the area in which yu teach the most.  Don't try to do too much at once.  You can undertake additional courses at a later date.

Who delivers the coaching courses?

Gymnastics NSW presents the Courses on behalf of Gymnastics Australia.  Our teams of course presenters are trained in the fields of Gymnastics, education and public speaking.  They are both knowledgeable and entertaining and update their skills annually.  These people are not just classroon lecturers but actively involved in coaching gymnastics.  We have a fantastic crew!!

I coach recreational classes and/or school programs.  Which course is best suited?

This depends on the nature of your club/school.  If your club/school offers ecrtain copmetitive sports, such as Sport AER, TRP or Artistic gymnastics, it may be best for yu to train in these areas.  If your club/school is a General Gymnastics club/school i.e. they don't enter competitions or they focus on basic skill development / display / performance  work them the Gymnastics For All course is for you!

How long does the process of gaining accreditation take?

Anywhere from 2 to 18 months depending on course availability and your own enthusiasm.  Te course length is approximately 10 hrs plus 6 hrs Beginner General Principle online course.  You have 40 hrs of practical coaching experience to complete, although 30 can be completed prior to the course.  You will be assessed in the field approximately 3 times and you may have to complete a video of this.  The assessment, once sent to GNSW, usually take 1 month.

Why do I need to register as a Technical Member of Gymnastics Australia?

The bulk of your registration fee goes toward giving you effective sports coaching insurance for professional indemnity and personal accident cover.  In today's litigious society this is a very cost-effective peace of mind.  Also, many clubs will not employ you until you are a registered Technical Member with insurance.  For more details on the benefits of Technical Membership, please go to the GA website and view the Technical Member handbook www.gymnastics.org.au
