Attention all Clubs - New Changes to how you can access working with children Check forms for paid employers,  voluteer checks and Self Employed Certificates.

There have been recent changes to the Working with children Check for paid employers and Prohibited Employment Declaration for volunteers.

All volunteer checks and Working with children check forms and processing up until 30th March 2010 has been with NSW Sport and Recreation, as of April 2010 all access to forms and checks to be completed for paid employers and self employed coaches is through – NSW Commission for Children and Young People.

These changes will affect your club and the information below will provide all the new processes you are required to follow.

Firstly if you are not currently registered as a Child –related Employer – www.check.kids.nsw.gov.au/  (if you were previously registered as an organisation under the NSW Sport and Recreation screening process you are not required to register again – your details have been automatically transferred).

Previously any volunteers you have in your club involved with your participants you would have them complete a PED – Prohibited Employment Declaration. They were to complete the form and you were just required to keep the form.
This process is still the same however there is now a new form to be completed for any NEW volunteers you have involved in your club:

https://check.kids.nsw.gov.au/index.php#are-you-volunteer this link will take you to the volunteer check section of the NSW Commission of Children and Young People. The form can be completed either online or if you would prefer to have hard copies to be completed as and when you recruit volunteers to assist in your club you can print copies off to complete. (If completed on line it is still required to be printed off so it can be signed).

The link below is the Working with Children’s Check that is now required to be completed by your new employees:

https://check.kids.nsw.gov.au/index.php#employing-staff this link will take you to the employment check section. This form again can be completed on line and then printed off and signed and 100 points ID produced to you or you as a club can print off hard copies so you have them readily available to be completed by new employees.

Please note – The above new forms only require to be completed by new volunteers and employees – checks previously completed under NSW Sport and Recreation process still stand.

Self-Employed Coaches are also now required to complete a Certificate for Self employed People – information and application form is on the link below:

Please ensure your Member Protection Information Officer is familiar with the new changes.

How confident are you that all of your coaches and administrators in your club are knowledgeable and comfortable with dealing with situations when its comes to Harassment, Discrimination, Victimisation and Child Protection?

GNSW are now offering clubs the opportunity to access in house Harassment Free Training.

Steps 201 have been one of theclubs to take up this new opportunity to provide their coaches and administration staff Harassment free training:

“I thought the Harassment Free Training was fantastic. It was suitably structured for all of our Club personnel to attend and understand the importance of providing a harassment free environment within our Club. It was good to have a course that was based towards our Club’s individual needs, having both Junior & Senior coaches and admin staff – they all found it very useful to attend the course.” Nikki Mead – Club Manager

“Very informative and interactive course. It gets you thinking about how to better handle situations that arise with students, their parents and fellow coaches. A recommended course.” Colleen Saliba – Senior Coach

• Overview of Discrimination, Harassment and Abuse in Sport
• Information on Harassment Free Sport & Member Protection
