Castle Hill new disability program
 
GNSW 1 day Disability Awareness Course now available.
 
The new 1 day training that has been developed as part of the GNSW Disability program outlined below. 
 The content of the Awareness day is as follows:
 
- Introduction to coaching disability participants general tips and techniques.
 
- Visual, hearing impairments, wheelchair, amputee and cerabral Palsy explored in more detail.
 
- Intellectual disabilities, autism and behavioural disabilitites.
 
- Opportunities and pathways for disability participants.
 
 
The course is presentation is a mixture of theory and practical.

GNSW Disability Fact Sheets now available: 
15 fact sheets have been developed to assist your club in providing disability opportunities for all, whether that be tips on making your club inclusive or if you wish to develop disability programs.

GNSW Gymnastics for All - Disability Sub - Committee.
 
In April 2010 GNSW developed a sub committee of the Gymnastics for All committee  - Disability sub committee.
 
This committee has been formed to drive forward disability education, resources and pathways and opportunities for GNSW Clubs and gymnasts.

"Gymnastics NSW Connect" - Disability Program

GNSW recently been awarded funding from NSW Sport and Recreation to role out the following "Gymnastics NSW Connect" disability program.


The key features of "Gymnastics NSW Connect" are:

- Gymnastics Disability Education Training for Coaches Program.
Working in partnership with NSW Sport and Recreation and Gymnastics Austrailia,
Gymnastics NSW will provide theory and practical disability awareness training for coaches.

- Development of training resources - DVD's workcards etc.

- Information fact sheets for clubs - Making your club fully inclusive.

- Online fact sheets, handy tips, training ideas, useful contacts

- Disability pathways and opportunities training day

- Disabilities participation displays to be incorporated into exisiting GNSW Gala's and events.

- Support clubs to link with local disability agencies.

The outcomes of the project are as follows:

- Increase participation of disability participation in GNSW affiliated clubs.

- Increase disability awareness within clubs in order for clubs to be more inclusive.

- Increase coaches understanding and confidence to offer disability sessions.

- Increase pathways and opportunities created within NSW for gymnastics disability partipants.

GNSW set up a working group to focus on coach education, participant opportunities and training resources, fact sheets and promotion.
