GNSW Leadership Program

 
“Developing Volunteers for our future”
 
GNSW has successfully secured funding to hold a Gymnastics Leadership Camp on the 19th & 20th January 2010.
 
Information will be available shortly regarding how your clubs young leaders can be involved in the program outlined below.
 
Outcomes to be achieved GNSW Leadership project: 
  • Increased gymnastics volunteer workforce within NSW
  • Increased awareness of all aspects of leadership within gymnastics
  • Increased efficiency of events within clubs, region and state
  • Increased volunteer support within clubs – judging, committee roles 
Key features of the leadership project::
 
GNSW will hold a Leadership camp weekend to be held at DSR Sydney Academy. The weekend will consist of:
 
  • Talks from ex female gymnasts who have continued to volunteer and work within gymnastics within such roles as a coach, club manager, judge etc
  • Member Protection Information Officer Training
  • Possible examples gymnastics specific workshops that will be held: Introduction to judging, committee roles, promotion & marketing, developing a gymnastics club – community or business, knowledge of Gymsports, disability awareness
  • Team Building, leadership and skill development training – skills required to be a good leader – team building activities
  • Participant skill analysis – next steps – GNSW Leadership training scheme (participants will identify which areas of gymnastics leadership they wish to pursue further)
  • Networking opportunities for participants with industry leaders.
Following on from the Leadership Camp weekend – the participants will have the opportunity to further develop their skills and training within their local community – through GNSW Leadership training scheme which will involve the following:
  •  Participants of the leadership camp weekend to be assigned a leadership mentor (Coach, committee member, manager of club, club judge etc)
  • Participant GNSW Leadership workbooks will have been distributed at the Leadership camp and the participants will work with their assigned mentor to complete chosen leadership areas of the workbook
  • On completion of certain areas of the workbook – participants will be given recognition for their achievements and benefits (the program recognition will link in with GNSW Annual Awards evening).
 
A GNSW Leadership Academy group will also be set up by attendees of the GNSW Leadership Camp to provide a voice for the young volunteers and to be a workforce for GNSW to utilise for future projects and events that they may wish to be involved in. This group will develop individuals who wish to develop skills in decision making and leadership.
 
Reason for program:
  •  To encourage more young potential volunteers to volunteer in gymnastics
  • To support the clubs in areas where they find it hard to find volunteers such as committees
  • To widen the awareness importance of volunteering in gymnastics
