Member Protection Information Officer

Member Protection Information Officer is responsible for providing information about a person’s right, responsibilities and options to an individual making a complaint or raising a concern.

 
The position is to help improve awareness of child protection and harassment free sport and provide safe and enjoyable gymnastics environment.
 
MPIO Course Outline:
 
·                  Discrimination, Harassment and Abuse in Sport
·                  Sport & Anti-Discrimination Law
·                  Understanding Child Abuse & Child Protection
·                  The MPIO Role
·                  Complaint Resolution Procedure
·                  Listening & Responding Effectively
·                  Meeting with a contact
·                  Ethical & Practical Considerations
 
The course will enable MPIO’s to:
 
·                  Recognise inappropriate behaviour in your gymnastics club and consider its impact on all members of your club.
·                  Understand areas of discrimination, harassment and child abuse and the legal and moral rights and obligations of individuals and your club under anti-discrimination and child protection law.
·                  Understand the complaint resolution process and identify the range of options available to resolve complaints.
·                  Feel comfortable to support an individual with an inquiry or complaint and assist them to reach their own decision or action.
·                  Anticipate and prepare for any issues or dilemmas which may arise for Member Protection Information Officers.
 

Please note that the appointment of a trained MPIO is an affiliation requirement

The MPIO training structure has changed and has been updated to provide training to officers with information that is most relevant to them in that role.

The new structure now consists of an online component and face to face workshop.

1. Online component has seven modules and takes approximately four hours to complete. These may be completed all at once or in parts. the online modules can be accessed at https://learning.ausport.gov.au. Once the course is completed participants recieve a completion certificate with their online certifcaticate number.

2. To become an MPIO, you will also need to complete the three hour face to face workshop which are run across various locations in NSW. Details on course location/ times/dates can be viewed on the Play by the Rules website  http://www.playbytherules.net.au/MPIO-courses

3. On completion of the face to face wprkshop you will recieve your workshop certifcation number. you will need both this and your online certiifcation number to REGISTER as an MPIO. From there, you will be able to access your Certificate of Recognition.
