Going Green

Environmental issues are becoming a great concern all over the world and environmental ethics is a ‘hot topic’ within the area of sport, in particular major sporting events, as a growing need is identified for sporting organisations to address their social and ecological impact. This commitment is demonstrated from the very highest levels of sporting performance, whereby the International Olympic Committee has worked in partnership with the United Nations Sports and Environment Program (UNEP) to address environmental issues as part of the Olympic Games

Gymnastics NSW wish to take a proactive step to assess and address our environmental impact and integrate sustainable development into our policies and management systems.  2012 will see the launch of the Gymnastics 'Going Green' initiative, which will aim to:
  • Implement environmentally sound practices and policies within the organisation
  • Raise awareness of environmental issues within the gymnastics community
  • Identify alternatives to minimize impact

Some examples of how GNSW will implement this initiative include:

  • Reducing our priniting, distributing material online wherever possible
  • Reducing our waste, the use of reusable water bottles at events
  • Redcuction in travel, through the use of the education hubs
  • Education, promote external agencies that may offer assistance and educational workshops
