Strong team results at 17th Austrian Future Cup

A young Australian team has placed 5th in the world at the 17th Austrian Future Cup!

Three 15-year-old NSW athletes joined the five-person squad at the event, held in Linz, Austria from November 25–26. The men’s artistic team competed together and individually, alongside about 100 other gymnasts from three continents.

John Carroll, from Manly Warringah Gymnastic Club, placed 13th in the Individual All Around competition (Age Group II), with a score of 71.950, including a difficulty score of 21.300.

He was closely followed by Sydney Hills Gymnastics athlete Daniel Chalabov with a 14th placing and score of 71.400.

Tru Hagens, from Sydney Gymnastics and Aquatic Centre/NSW High Performance Centre, also made it into the top 20 in the same All Around age group competition with a score of 69.900.

Congratulations also goes to Victorians William Hansen-Cooper and Xavier Magnanini, who came 19th and 24th respectively.

Future Cup Organisation Director President Helmut Kranzlmüller said the event had made an incredible comeback after COVID.

“That was the best Future Cup so far. Thanks to the entire team behind it and making this important platform for top-class junior sport possible. All the teams want to come back next year – there's hardly any greater praise,” he told the event organisers.

We are so proud of you all - keep up the great work!
